Our Team
Laurel Logas, DVM
Chief of Staff, Medical Director, and Co-owner
Dr. Laurel Logas always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. "When I was in grade school neighbors would bring baby or injured wildlife to our house. My mother, sisters and I would care for them until they could be released."

Dr. Logas graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary. She worked in three practices before buying one in Winona, MN in 1992. In 2011 she and her husband, Jeff, decided to move to the Sunshine State and bought Bradenton Small Animal Hospital. They changed the name from containing the word "animal" to Bradenton Veterinary Hospital to better reflect pets' status as family members.

Dr. Laurel modernized the practice adding computers, digital x-rays, dental digital x-rays, anesthesia monitoring equipment, ultrasound and other technologies. In 2015 she moved the practice into its current and larger facility. To make cats feel more comfortable, it has separate dog and cat waiting rooms, exam rooms, and hospital wards. Today BVH is a certified "Cat Friendly Practice."

She has advanced training in both soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery as well as dentistry. She also loves wellness visits, connecting with clients, and developing long-lasting relationships with clients.

Dr. Logas lives on a small horse farm with her husband, Jeff; her horse, Stella; their two cats, Franklin and Elanor; and their dog Ruby.

Dr. Laurel enjoys riding dressage, playing with her pets, hiking, exercising, dining out, traveling, and reading. Dr. Logas has trained her cat, Elanor, to play fetch.
Gordon Brackee, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Brackee is a Small Animal Veterinarian and graduate of the University of Minnesota Veterinary School. He especially enjoys working with dogs and cats, as well as, small "pocket" pets such as rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Prior to joining BVH, Dr. Brackee taught Animal Science at the University of Rhode Island and worked as a relief veterinarian in the Northeast area. Now, Dr. Brackee is a resident of Lakewood Ranch, and enjoys playing Pickleball on his days off, and exploring the "outdoors" like a true Floridian. His personal dog is a very sweet pitbull named Athena. Dr. Brackee is looking forward to many more years working at BVH and serving the pets of the Bradenton area.
My Best Regards,
Dr. Brackee
Karyn Massi, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Massi is a New Jersey native that has been living and practicing in Southwest Florida since 2009. Prior to getting her veterinary degree, Dr. Massi earned a BA in Music Performance (flute) from Ithaca College in 1997. After playing and teaching music for several years, Dr. Massi was inspired to become a veterinarian after she got her first pet, a cockatiel named Buttercup. After catching up on some science courses at Rutgers University, Dr. Massi attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, and earned her degree in 2009. Dr. Massi especially enjoys veterinary dentistry.
After living in the Northeast for most of her life, Dr. Massi was tired of snow, so she moved to Florida to take advantage of the world class beaches, warmth, and sunshine.
Though Dr. Massi loves the beach, she escapes for a hiking trip in the mountains whenever she can. However, Dr. Massi trades the hiking boots for heels when she goes salsa dancing - another one of her passions. She currently takes lessons in four different types of dancing.
Dr. Massi’s favorite hobby is birding. If you let her, she will talk your ear off about her latest foray with her binoculars in the field. She currently shares her home with her two avian children - a headstrong Nanday conure, and a plum-headed parakeet who always manages to steal her dinner. Dr. Massi loves traveling, and hopes to do more of it internationally - Australia, Brazil, and Africa are on her bucket list (to see birds of course).
Dr. Massi is a trekkie, a Ravenclaw, is not afraid to poorly sing karaoke, and takes Taco Tuesdays seriously. I mean, who doesn’t love a good taco?!
Thomas MacPhail, DVM
Part-time Veterinarian
Dr. MacPhail received his Bachelors of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 1998. He obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University and gained invaluable practical experience during his clinical rotations at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. MacPhail has a particular interest in soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery. He continually attends special orthopedic seminars and performs various types of special bone healing surgeries. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Florida Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Tom and his wife, Dr. Deborah Ulbrich, sold a veterinary practice in north-central Florida before semi-retiring to Bradenton.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. They keep their household interesting with their 4 dogs, 3 cats, a bird and 4 horses. Dr. MacPhailÂ’'s other interests include boating, scuba diving, soccer, football and playing ball with his dogs.

Jeff enjoys walking on the beach, photography, playing with their pets, dining out, reading, and traveling.
